Mario Kart Double Dash for GameCube

One of the most fun games ever made is Mario Kart Double Dash for Gamecube.  It’s a hilariously fun race car game.  This game is appropriate for any age, but has a bit of difficulty that might make it frustrating for very young children under 5. This Gamecube game has some cartoon violence like bombs blowing up other drivers but it’s really very tame.

There have also been a few other versions before Double Dash.  Like others in the series, this one has the same Kart look-and-feel to it, but with some new modes: the Shine Thief and Bob-omb Blast.

To win the Shine Thief a player has the have possession of the shine as the timer goes off. The timer starts whenever a new player gets control of the shine, and to get possession of the shine players must attack the other players then grab the shine once it has been dropped.

Bob-omb Blast is a battle mode where players can bomb each other; each player can be hit up to three times before being eliminated. Whenever a player is hit by a bomb they get a point, but if you hit an opponent with a bomb, your points are removed. Two good players who are matched in play could even end up in a stale-mate.

The Balloon Battle in Mario Kart Double Dash for Gamecube is still part of the game from the original SNES version, it’s always fun to play. Each player has three balloons with their cart, and the object is to burst the other player’s balloons before they can pop your balloons. Whoever has the most balloons in the end wins. Each of these three battle modes are really entertaining and you can choose the stage where you’d like to play any of the three.

Mario Kart Double Dash for Gamecube has all of your favorite characters from the various Mario Brothers video games. Each of the characters has a particular weight that will affect which carts they can choose to use. For heavier characters, the karts are a lot slower and chunkier, while smaller characters get lighter karts. When you choose a kart, you’ll get the info about how fast and sturdy each cart can be on the road.

Each cart can hold up to two characters; on is a driver and the other a passenger. Passengers can attack the other players by using different items that are picked up when you drive over a block marked with a question mark. Some of the best items you can get are the red shell, spiny shell, star, mushroom, and thunderbolt. Each of your two characters also have special items they can give you to use that are not available to anyone else when you get a question mark bonus item. For example, Baby Luigi gets the chain chomp, Mario gets fire balls, and Bowser gets the bowser shell, and so on. When you pick you characters at the beginning along with their kart, you’ll want to think about these extras and how they can help you win.

The choice of characters in Mario Kart Double Dash along with all of the special items they each have, makes this a really fun Gamecube game to play. Even the voices of the characters are hilarious and silly.  For some more experience gamers, this game might be kind of repetitive, and some people might get bored after a bit because there are only so many levels, and eventually you’ll unlock all of them and the items available.  This game is a lot more fun played with a group, as opposed to alone – Mario Kart Double Dash can handle up to four players. When more than one player plays, the game screen is split into four. This can be confusing for some players, but after a bit you’ll get used to it, and with everyone involved it’s a lot more fun this way.

As far as playing locations goes, there are sixteen different tracks to race on, plus there is also a mirror image for each of those sixteen tracks, so the total is thirty-two.

When you’re racing, you can also have a friend play as your passenger on the back of your kart. If another driver comes too close, the passenger can punch them and hit them directly with items that you’ve picked up. Players can also switch between driver and passenger during play.

Mario Kart Double Dash for GameCube is a lot of fun, and kids and their parents can get into playing it. The graphics are very cartoonish and bright as you’d expect from Mario, along with good animation and sound. It’s a blast for players of all ages.
